Ergonomic Blast Cabinet
April 30, 2004 - Saratoga Springs, NY
Guyson Corporation has expanded its line-up of height-adjustable blast cabinets with the new Model 8-AH, available with suction-blast or direct pressure media delivery. The design allows multiple operators to conveniently use the blast cabinet in greater comfort.
The finishing chamber of the Model 8-AH is 36 inches high by 42 inches wide by 42 inches deep (91 cm x 106 cm x 106 cm). The cabinet has two full-width front doors to allow improved access for loading. The top door is hinged upward and the lower door is hinged to the left side, so heavy or bulky work can be loaded by fork lift or hoist. The slam-shut side door is the full height of the blast enclosure and permits use of an optional rubber-flapped slot in the roof of the cabinet for loading by overhead crane. A crane slot is also available on other models.
The armholes of the new model are extra large to allow unfettered movement, and they have built-in armrests with foam rubber padding. Adjustment of the height of the cabinet is as easy as turning a switch at the control panel. A motor driven jackscrew raises or lowers the cabinet to the most comfortable position for each individual user. Among the conveniences available optionally is a Lazy Susan turntable with a 500 pound weight capacity to allow safer manipulation of heavy components for better access and visibility.
Customers claim the height adjustment feature solves one of the most common causes of operator fatigue and discomfort, since blast cabinet users come in all sizes. A higher level of productivity can be maintained in manual blasting operations when such preventable aches and pains are eliminated.
To contribute additional flexibility, the rigidly welded steel base of the Model 8-AH is fabricated to provide fork lift channels, making it easy to relocate the cabinet where it is needed most. Lifting eyes on the top of the cabinet simplify movement by crane.
For the use of harsh abrasive media, the interior of the Model 8-AH blast cabinet is normally lined with rubber, and the blast gun is fitted with a wear-resistant boron carbide nozzle. The tempered safety-glass view window is protected from frosting by a square-cut inner window mounted in a quick-change frame. The work envelope is brilliantly illuminated by adjustable incandescent floodlights, with fluorescent lighting available optionally.
A multi-adjustable telescoping gun bracket is installed as standard equipment to allow the blast nozzle to be locked in position for hands-free manipulation of components. The pedal switch-activated blast gun can also be hand held, if the operator prefers. A manual air wash nozzle is provided for blow-off of parts.
Prospective users of manual or automated blast systems are encouraged to submit sample components for testing in Guyson's engineering laboratory. The testing service is free and entails no obligation.
